1996-1997

Scott got into racing in 1996. His Dad helped build his uncle an Enduro Car.  Scott went in the Pits to help with the car.  After that he wanted to try it.  So, his Dad got a little beater four cylinder.  Two weeks later he totaled it. So, his Dad got him a full sized Monte Carlo. Just a few weeks later he hit the wall at Wiscasset and totaled that one.  Thank God he started with only about six weeks to go in the racing season.

The Winter of 1997 we all got together and built Scott a Heavyweight Screaming Demon (and entry level car at Wiscasset Raceway).  In only his second or third week he got to carry the checkers.  He had won his first heat race. By that time it was too late to turn back. Scott was hooked!  So were Joe and I!

It was a really fun 1997 season. Scott won a few heats and finished in the top 5 six times.  He wrecked the car with four weeks to go. So, his Dad and a Cousin (Yogi) built him a new car in a week. Scott finished off the season in sixth place for the year. Then he raced and Enduro at Oxford Plains Speedway to finish off the year. He finished third out of 135 cars. The last eleven laps he didn’t even have a tire on the inside front!
