2000 Season

For the 2000 Season Big Joe and I decided to be car owners.  Not knowing hardly anything about Pro Stock Cars we called every car builder in the state.  After talking to a lot of them, Joe and I and the whole family piled in the Motor Home and rode up to meet David and Donna Smith of Race Basics in Andover Maine (formerly Townsend).  After spending a Sunday afternoon with these people, we knew where our new car was going to be built, at Race Basics.

Dave and Donna, thanks for all of the help and support you gave us!

Yes, that is snow in the backround!

At the beginning of the 2000 season we raced at Wiscasset Raceway.

Congratulations Scott! I know this is something you have dreamed of doing and what an awesome birthday present for your Mother!!!!!!!!There was about thirty of us crying in the stands that day. A day none of us will ever forget.  We all knew in our hearts Scott would make this race someday.  We just didn’t realize how SOON.

We didn’t do all that great. (see picture below from our third week)  We moved to Oxford Plains Speedway in June hoping to get the car set-up to maybe qualify for the Oxford 250.  Our dreams came true.  In only his second year in a Pro Stock Car Scott qualified for the big race!  He didn’t only qualify, but he qualified 18th out of 85 cars that tried to make the field.  Scott finished the big race in 24th place. This was a dream come true for all of us.

3rd Week of the season we had a little problem! Ouch!

Scott raced a total of twelve races at Oxford Plains Speedway in 2000.  The highlights of the season were many. A few to make mention of were: qualifying for the Oxford 250 in July, a Weekly Feature Race Win in August and six Heat Race Wins.
